Course Outline

The IB History HL course covers the same topics as the SL course.  Additionally, HL History consists of one depth option from the following regions; history of Africa and the Middle East, history of the Americas, history of Asia and Oceania and history of Europe. Eighteen topics are studied per region.

The final grade comprises an external component of 80 percent and an internal component of 20 percent. The internal assessment (20 percent) consists of a HL historical investigation of up to 2200 words on a topic chosen by the student.  The History HL final, externally marked examination (80 percent), consists of an additional paper on the regional section studied, as well as the source-based paper and essay paper required for History SL.
