IB Theatre Arts HL 12

Course Outline

HL Theatre Arts students follow the same core syllabus as do the SL students that encourages the development of certain skills, attributes, and attitudes as described in the syllabus. Theatre HL requires students to perform an additional solo theatre piece.

Students final grade will be based on a final externally assessed components worth 75 percent and an internal assessment worth 25 percent. The internally assessed component (25 percent) is comprised of a collaborative project which requires students to collaboratively create and present an original piece of theatre of 13-15 minutes for a targeted audience.  The externally assessed component (75 percent) requires students to create a director’s notebook where they develop ideas regarding how a play text could be staged for an audience (20 percent), the delivery of an individual presentation of no more than 15 minutes that outlines and physically demonstrates research into a convention of theatre tradition (20 percent) as well as performance of a solo theatre piece (35 percent) 4-8 minutes which is based on aspects of music theory.
