The Mass Casualty Commission’s Recommendation C.17 calls for province-wide implementation of curriculum addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and bystander intervention (BI) education. This will ensure that every student in grades primary to 12 will learn how to recognize, prevent, and respond to GBV and other harms. The updated outcomes have been added to the new at-a-glance documents found to the right. Additional information can be found in this one-pager or by clicking on the resources link. Course Outline Language and Literature 10 offers students opportunities to explore communication through inquiry-based learning, multimodal text creation, and critical engagement with language. Designed to support the development of traditional and contemporary literacies, this course invites students to formulate and investigate questions, respond with intention and purpose, and construct meaning from a wide variety of oral, written, visual, and digital texts. Students in Language and Literature 10 develop skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing, and representing through personal and critical inquiry. Emphasis is placed on understanding how audience and purpose shape communication, and how students can use a range of forms—including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, and media—to express and extend their thinking. Through collaborative and independent learning, students evaluate the reliability and bias of texts, refine their communication strategies, and engage in revision and publication processes that foster clarity, creativity, and ownership of learning. Language and Literature 10 is equivalent in credit to English 10. With a focus on inquiry, process, and purposeful language use, Language and Literature 10 supports diverse learners as they navigate complex texts, reflect on their identities, and contribute to meaningful conversations in academic and real-world contexts.
