Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Bystander Intervention Education

Gender-Based Violence Resources and Bystander Intervention Education

The Mass Casualty Commission’s Recommendation C.17 calls for province-wide implementation of curriculum addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and bystander intervention (BI) education. This will ensure that every student in grades primary to 12 will learn how to recognize, prevent, and respond to GBV and other harms.

Curriculum documents have been posted for educators to explore related updates and resources in advance of full implementation. Implementation will vary by subject area. Please refer to the grade level pages for the Health Education (P-9) and Language Arts (10 -12) courses for more information. Implementation for Language Arts (10-12) will begin in the 2025-2026 school year. The Health Education curricula will be implemented starting in the 2026-2027 school year.
