Explore Music 9

Course Outline

Explore Music 9 focuses on creativity and innovation, which presents outstanding learning opportunities for students. This course has been developed for those students who wish to continue their music education but not necessarily in a band setting. The curriculum is written in a non-sequential modular format, focusing on opportunities for students to develop essential skills in the specified discipline. This format provides great flexibility for scheduling, allowing schools to choose which modules and how many they will offer. These non-sequential music modules are engaging, creative, and interactive, with a strong emphasis on performance, improvisation, and composition (using traditional and invented notation). The modules range from 13 to 26 hours in length and may be offered at any grade level (7-9). Schools may choose from two introductory modules, two drumming modules, two guitar modules, two popular music modules and single modules entitled Singers/Songwriters, Music and Movement, and Music and Theatre Workshop.

This full curriculum consists of a variety of non-sequential modules plus a Curriculum Framework and Appendices documents.
