Course Outline Starting in Grade 3, French Immersion students have the benefit of learning about how language works by exploring both French and English Language Arts. Learning two language systems simultaneously strengthens students’ understanding of the foundational components of each and all languages. The grades 4 to 6 English Language Arts curricula have been tailored to French Immersion students who are enrolled in two language programs. English Language Arts 4 to 6 French Immersion focuses on the relationship between listening, reading and viewing, writing and other forms of representation. This relationship is fundamental to the Language Arts program. As a result of their cumulative learning experiences, students should be able to: communicate in a variety of situations to respond to their individual needs use appropriate strategies and techniques to facilitate reading and viewing experiences demonstrate their understanding of a wide range of texts, depending on the situation and on their individual needs use appropriate strategies and techniques to facilitate their writing and other forms of representing consolidate previous learning in French Language Arts and practice and apply it in English French Immersion Students use a modified Curriculum (see the at a glance) but for more information go to the English Language Arts 4-6 section under English Curricula
