Français arts langagiers 8e année (French Language Arts 8)

Course Outline

Early Immersion

In French Immersion, language skills are developed in authentic situations. This acquisition process happens as students develop the communication and comprehension competencies they need to understand and interact with the world around them. Above all, learning a language is making sense out of what we see, hear and feel.  The challenge in French Immersion is in creating an authentic, language rich environment within which learners can participate actively in school life and learn about the other subjects in French. It is very important that French is the only language used in the classroom. Teachers work diligently to create a classroom climate which inspires confidence in speaking a second language and celebrates risk-taking as students learn to express themselves and communicate with one another and with the curricula in French.  In addition, learning a second language allows learners to engage more readily with other cultures, supporting their growth as global citizens.

Late Immersion

Developing language skills in Late Immersion encourages language development in authentic situations. This process of acquiring skills is linked to the development of communication and comprehension skills, where the student explores and seeks to understand the world around them and the information received. Learning a language first and foremost means building meaning from what we see, what we hear and what we feel. The challenge in Late Immersion is to create an authentic ambiance allowing the student to take part in life in the classroom while learning French and other subjects. French must be the only language of communication in the classroom. The teacher must therefore create a climate of trust where the learner can take risks, make mistakes and be fully engaged.

Grade 7 and 8 renewed curriculum has been fully implemented across the province.
